GENERAL INFORMATION

International Association of Surgeons, Gastroenterologists and Oncologists (IASGO)
IASGO was founded in Amsterdam in 1988. Today, we are privileged to have strong IASGO sections in more than 70 countries, which greatly assists in assessing educational needs. The main goal of this organization has been and remains the globalization of medical knowledge and expertise through a well-structured and precisely organized system of continued medical education. We believe that medical knowledge and expertise belong to every human being on this planet and that they must be available beyond any kind of discrimination, based on individual, institutional or national level, to every patient that strives for survival because of challenging and life-threatening diseases.

Twenty-eight years after its inception, IASGO is a vibrant, strong, and influential body of surgeons, gastroenterologists, hepatologists, oncologists, endoscopists, laparoscopists, pathologists, and radiologists, from over 90 different countries worldwide and with over 1,700 members.

HOST CITY AND VENUE

A unique heritage city in an excellent location!

On the banks of the Adige River, we find Verona, one of the 55 Italian sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
2.000 years of history encased in an expanse of 200 km
2: this is Verona, site of a completely harmonious integration of the finest artistic elements from several diverse historical periods.
Thanks to its geographical area, it was an important urban center founded by the Romans in the First Century B.C.
Significant traces of its prodigious past are still visible today. It is really a city of many faces whose history can also encompass Italy’s own history – think of the works left by the Romans, the Medieval streets, and the “Palazzi” of the Renaissance.

A highly livable, culturally dynamic, welcoming city, Verona is in a strategic position near Lake Garda and the Lessinia mountains, easily reachable from other important artistic cities in Italy such as Venice, Milan, Bologna.

CONGRESS LOCATION – PALAZZO DELLA GRAN GUARDIA

Leaning against the city walls, Palazzo della Gran Guardia, with its elegant staircase, dominates Piazza Bra.
The building was constructed in two different historical phases: it saw its heyday in the Baroque period, during the first half of the 17
th century, when it was designed to counterbalance the Arena.
It was conceived to let troops rest, even on bad weather days; begun in 1610 by Domenico Curtoni, the works were suspended due to lack of funds and completed only around the middle of the 19
th century by Giuseppe Barbieri.

The lower floor is rural (many stones come from the Arena) and has a portico with thirteen arches; on the main floor there are several large windows, separated by coupled columns; it has recently been cleaned and refurbished.

Today, it is currently used as a conference and exhibition center.
The most important conferences, events, markets, small and large exhibitions are held there.
